Kanika is a multi-talented artist and front woman for the energetic and party starting Rock/Ska fusion band, The Upstarters. Best known for her songwriting ability and knack for laying catchy hooks, her meaningful and provocative music, plus dynamic live performance is creating much talked about noise in the entertainment world. Receiving nominations in the Best Pop Video and Best RnB categories at the World Music and Independent Film Festival, Kanika has performed at New York City's Apollo Theater and has been highlighted for her activist work in the Baltimore community.
You can catch Kanika and the Upstarters performing throughout MD, DC, VA and DE, in both local regional and international festivals and have opened for The Toasters, Reel Big Fish, Fishbone, H.R. of Bad Brains. Kanika was recently in concert at the Kennedy Center singing with the Beyoncé Mass Choir, has opened for KEM, and appeared in a concert series with artists: Keri Hilson, Trombone Shorty, Fantasia, and Michael Franti Spearhead to name a few.
As an accomplished TV personality Kanika was the Executive Producer and Host of TV talk show The Talk Lounge, and music entertainment show Indie TV Live. Both shows gained popularity moving from public access TV in MD, DC, VA, and GA, to airing on FOX and THIS TV Networks in MD and DE. Kanika recently released new single “Black Lives Matter” www.kanikamusic.com and a new Upstarters project www.upstartersband.com featuring socially forward singles “Bubble” and “Same”.
John Gordon- also known as “JG”- has over 30 years of experience in the music industry as a Musician, Singer/Song Writer, Producer and Recording Engineer, collaborating with some of the largest names in the music business. In the height of his career, John was co-partner of Horizon Music Studio where he worked as Recording Engineer and studio Manager. Located in Washington, DC, Horizon was known for being one of the largest and most successful African American studios on the East Coast. John has worked with many notable artists such as Jodeci, No Limit, Snoop Dog, DMX, Dru Hill, and Stevie Wonder to name a few. In 2012, John also went on the Jackson 5 Reunion World Tour as a Tech.
Now residing in Baltimore MD, John has been performing for the past four years as base player with popular Rock/Ska fusion band The Upstarters, while also serving as Co-lyric composer, Producer and Mixing Engineer. As an experienced TV producer, John was one of the creative voices behind The Talk Lounge talk show, and music entertainment show, Indie TV Live - both airing on TV in MD, DC and VA.
